Raphaël Isdant is an interactive experience designer, tech artist, and teacher based in Paris. His work lies at the intersection of creation, research, and pedagogy, focusing on experimental devices that translate real-time data from hyper-connected ecosystems into tangible stories. Through spatialized environments, his artworks bridge the gap between complex data and human experience, interrogating contemporary social, psychological, and ecological vulnerabilities.

Education

Master’s degree (M2) in Ecology of Arts and Media, University Paris 8; Research program at EnsadLab (ENSAD Paris); Postgraduate program in Interactive Research (Ensad, Paris);

Teaching / Research Experience

Since 2009, Raphaël has been teaching digital culture in art and design schools across France (Beaux-Arts de Paris, Ensaama, Excelia) and Asia (Kun Shan & Shih-Chien University in Taïwan, South-East University in China). As a regular guest professor in various international visual communication design departments, he leads workshops and seminars centered on innovative projects combining physical computing, XR technologies, and artificial intelligence.

Professional Experience

As an interaction designer for major cultural institutions (Cité des Sciences, Palais de la Découverte, and Musée de l’Homme…), he works on immersive experiences and sensitive interactive installations for the public. In parallel, he provides technical design and engineering expertise for various contemporary artists, assisting in the development and realization of complex interactive systems and digital installations.

Exhibitions & Artworks

His artworks explore the intersection of data and human experience through various forms – including a device photographing the spectrum of extinct animals using IUCN data, a digital heart synchronized with Earth’s seismic activity, a living avatar exploring identity on social networks, a metaverse for hospitalized children, and an oracle that transmutes human touch into the digital flow of X (Twitter). These projects have been presented in numerous international exhibitions and events, including Laval Virtual, Nuit Blanche, Novembre Numérique, and Vision Get Wild in Taiwan.

Awards/Acknowledgments

Laval Virtual Award (2018) for Corps Raccords, Orange Foundation Award, and Roche Foundation Award for Fenêtre sur chambre (2012), e-virtuoses Award (2011).
